Frequently Asked Questions
The simple answer to this is – No! We welcome everyone of all abilities, fitness levels and ages to our classes. We split our classes into Beginners and Advanced to ensure that you can start your Martial Arts journey with confidence. Martial Arts is all about respect – it is incredibly important to us to create a welcoming, nurturing vibe within our school and we can learn this from appreciating that everyone has to start somewhere, and we strongly support that.
We’ll provide you with a uniform and kit when you have joined the club. We recommend you attend you first class in clothes that you are comfortable to train in – for example joggers, leggings or shorts with a T-shirt and trainers. We also advise bringing a bottle of water with you as well.
Once you have completed your free taster session, one of our instructors will have a discussion with you about whether you enjoyed the class and answer any questions you may have. You will receive an information pack from them which contains program information, timetables, signing up form and insurance information. You don’t have to make a decision immediately about joining the club – our instructor will arrange to call you at your convenience to discuss this further if you so wish.
We do understand that kickboxing and Martial Arts in general can get bad press. Firstly, Martial X Academy prides itself on building up the confidence and self-esteem of everyone that walks onto their mats. Our whole ethos is following the roots of the sport which build on focus, respect, discipline, confidence and self-esteem. Of course, there are other fantastic by-products such as fitness, agility, flexibility, weight loss, toning – and for the children, we offer fantastic life skills as well. It is also a fantastic way to meet some lovely people along the way!
Unfortunately, we don’t have the answer to that – this needs to come from you. We are not a black belt factory and therefore, if we do not feel that you are ready for a grading then you will not be able to grade. We have a solid syllabus which if adhered to will take you through all the belts over a period of roughly 4 years – however, to complete your black belt, there are many other elements to address as well as wisdom, experience and benchmarks to pass.
No – absolutely not! We are active on the kickboxing and competition circuit, and when we feel you are ready to take part in competitions, we will have a discussion with you. However, you do not have to pursue this channel – the most important thing to us is that you are enjoying your classes and achieving your own personal goals.
