We want to help you achieve your goals whether that is to simply get fit, lose weight, try something new, become more focused, learn practical self-defence, achieve a Black Belt or become a World Class Martial Artist in a specialist field.
Our academy competes in national and international circuits, although this is entirely optional within the club. All classes follow a simple discipline and respect ethos, which in-itself instils a range of life skills including confidence, courage, self-esteem, flexibility, adaptability to name a few that we hope will only enhance your attitude to all aspects of your life.
Classes are split up into different age groups to ensure we are not blanket teaching and that each class is appropriately aimed at the student dynamic. All of our instructors hold a minimum of a Black Belt in their chosen discipline and all are DBS checked. Read the bios below to find out more about us and our team.
Founder & Director
Martial X Academy is headed up by stuntman, kickboxing national champion and trickster/tumbler extraordinaire Mr Lewis Young. Splitting his time between Woking Leisure Centre and the silver screen on projects like Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, The Avengers to name just a few, he has been teaching Kickboxing for nearly 10 years after starting his training at the tender of just 5 years old. Lewis has not only produced many national title fighters during his time teaching with different academies, he has also had a very successful career on the circuit. With a background in gymnastics (making the GB squad at just a teen) as well as Martial Arts, he has taken a keen interest within the Forms side of the Martial Arts world and he is excited about bringing another dimension to his school.
Martial X Academy will not only provide fantastic kickboxing instruction to all levels and ages, following syllabuses, authenticated Gradings and competition training, we will also be providing Forms classes for all students which won’t just include open hand forms but will also include weapon work as well. With a strong undercurrent of the Martial Arts teachings of Respect, Focus, Confidence and Discipline, we know that Martial X Academy will encourage your dreams and help you reach your goals. Lewis’ unique background and set of skills has enabled him to create a well-rounded syllabus based on free style Kickboxing and incorporates martial gymnastics, a style commonly known as XMA (Xtreme Martial Arts).
Meet The Team
Lewis, of course, can’t do this all on his own! Martial X Academy is so lucky to have an amazing team of staff all exceptional in their own fields.
We count among us: 5 x stuntmen / women (amongst them many having featured and doubled for main roles in blockbuster films as well as LA Award winners), 3 x World Champions, 4 x National and International Title holders.
Martial X Academy are delighted to have Chloe Bruce as part of our team. Many of you have probably seen her without even realising on the big screen – featuring in films such as Blade Runner, Assassin’s Creed and probably most famously having doubled Daisy Ridley, the lead in Star Wars, The Last Jedi, who plays Bo. Chloe Bruce is an amazing instructor who imparts her talents with wisdom and patience to her students. She is invited worldwide to teach so we are incredibly lucky to have her here with us as part of our team. Chloe is 4th Dan Black Belt in Korean Tang Soo Do as well as World Champion with Forms and Weapons, she won her first British title at the age of 12 with WKA and was World Champion by the age of 13. Chloe teaches forms and Bostaff for Martial X Academy teaching the students the basics as well as working on routines with them. Click the link below to see some of her amazing skills.
Kickboxing & Forms Instructor
Martial X Academy Instructor Cerize Power has been training since the tender age of 3 and a half years old. She is 1st degree black belt in kickboxing as well as World Champion and International Champion in Points Fighting. Cerize teaches Lil Ninjas, forms and points fighting for Martial X Academy and has plenty of mat wisdom to pass over to our students.
Mr Sonny Louis
Stunts & Tricking Specialist
Martial X Academy Instructor Sonny Louis has also graced the silver screen most recently winning an impressive amount of accolades for his short stunt film Express Delivery, he is also starred alongside Mr Young in Game of Thrones as well as work on Fast and Furious 6, Wonder Woman and Justice League. Mr Louis, starting training in Martial Arts at just 7 years old and amongst other disciplines, is also a black belt in Korean Karate and self defence specialist.
Mr Dan Lucking
Kickboxing & Forms Instructor
Martial X Academy Instructor Dan Lucking has also been training since a young age. Since Dan’s first Martial Arts lesson aged 8, he’s been hooked and trained his hardest to achieve his many national and International titles both in competitive fighting and forms as well as British Titles with kamas in the musical weapons categories. Dan has been coaching from 11 years old in both forms and fighting and we are delighted that he is working with us to help coach our students. Dan has just returned from Australia where he has spent 2 years working with movement specialist companies training different competitive athletes in elements of strength and conditioning.

DO I NEED TO HAVE A GOOD FITNESS LEVEL?
The simple answer to this is – No! We welcome everyone of all abilities, fitness levels and ages to our classes. We split our classes into Beginners and Advanced to ensure that you can start your Martial Arts journey gently and with confidence. Martial Arts is all about respect – it is incredibly important to us to create a welcoming, nurturing vibe within our school and we can learn this from appreciating that everyone has to start somewhere and we strongly support that.
SHALL I BRING ANYTHING WITH ME? DO I NEED ANY KIT?
We will provide you with a uniform and kit when you have joined the club. We recommend you attend your taster session wearing clothes that you are comfortable to train in – joggers, leggings, shorts and a tshirt and trainers as well as bringing a bottle of water with you.
DO I HAVE TO COMPETE?
No, absolutely not! We are active on the kickboxing and Forms competition circuit, and when we feel you are ready to take part in competitions we will talk to you about this. If you decide not to pursue that channel then that is absolutely not a problem at all – the most important thing to us is that you are enjoying your classes and achieving your own personal goals. .
WHAT HAPPENS IN A CLASS?
All classes start with a thorough warm up and stretch. With the children’s classes, this will then be followed by their topic talk / life skill which for retention, is then compounded by a drill to replicate the discussion. At this point, all groups are then split up into ability levels and taken by their instructor through the chosen syllabus / belt subjects for that week. There is also a theme which runs on rotation throughout the year on a weekly basis: stripe testing, fitness, equipment and padwork.
WHAT IS A GRADING AND DO I NEED TO DO ONE?
A Grading is the test that is taken on a regular basis to assess your current belt level and move you up to the next stage of your Martial Arts journey moving further towards your Black Belt. The Lil Ninjas grade every 8 weeks and once they have reached their mini Black Belt this signifies the first belt on the Adult syllabus.
DO I SPAR ON MY FIRST DAY?
No! We are firm believers in Martial Arts being instrumental in building up self esteem and confidence. By putting you into a situation where you are not equipped properly in technique, we would be destroying your confidence – plus it’s dangerous and incredibly bad form! We have a Beginners course that everyone has to partake in when they have joined Martial X Academy. This course teaches you the basics of kickboxing and once we feel you are ready to grade and move up to the next level we will let you know and it is at this point that you would start sparring.
